The use of energy and resources

At the Parkhotel Pörtschach, we view the use of energy and resources as a long-term responsibility. With a clear focus on the future, we are implementing targeted measures in the areas of energy, water, resource conservation, mobility and our staff. Thinking for the long term
The Parkhotel Pörtschach is committed to the long-term preservation of its building. The environment and resources are therefore integral to its strategic planning.
Clear priorities
In 2025, the Parkhotel Pörtschach carried out an initial materiality analysis to assess which environmental issues are particularly important. The highest-ranked issues were water, energy and greenhouse gas emissions, the impacts of climate change, and resources and waste.
Building up knowledge and data
Strategic decisions require reliable data. The Parkhotel Pörtschach therefore voluntarily collects its sustainability data in accordance with the European VSME standard, having done so in four pilot properties since 2025. To this end, staff have received targeted training, for example on a CSRD course at the ARS and a course on calculating environmental data at BOKU.
VFrom the basics to the strategy
Based on the analysis and the data, the Parkhotel Pörtschach is developing its sustainability strategy. In January 2026, the key action areas were defined, including energy, refurbishment, climate change adaptation and mobility. Strategic work is carried out in a targeted manner across these key action areas and business divisions.
Energie
The Parkhotel Pörtschach sources certified green electricity and generates part of its own using photovoltaic systems. The consumption figures collected show where investments in efficiency are worthwhile.
Buildings and Heat
Summers are getting hotter. The Parkhotel Pörtschach uses water from Lake Wörthersee for cooling and carefully manages its sun protection. Ongoing refurbishments help maintain the building fabric, for example in the staff accommodation.
Staff
At the Parkhotel Pörtschach, men and women receive the same pay for the same work. Further training is a key priority, including in new areas such as sustainability and reporting.
Mobility
Guests can charge their electric cars in the hotel’s own car park. Furthermore, the Parkhotel Pörtschach is directly accessible by train.
Purchasing and Cleaning
When sourcing supplies, the Parkhotel Pörtschach pays close attention to origin and environmental standards. Wherever possible, the hotel kitchen uses produce from Austrian suppliers. The cleaning products carry the Austrian eco-label, and bed and table linen is laundered by the Salesians.
Water and Outdoor Areas
Water is one of the most important environmental issues for the Parkhotel Pörtschach. One example is the installation of new water pipes. Heat-tolerant trees and shrubs are being planted in the outdoor areas, and lawn maintenance has been adapted accordingly.
